Facebook has been testing a new design [webmasterworld.com] for some time, and it now starting to roll it out to a wider audience to test. If you're not offerend the design, you can get to it from the settings menu and "see new facebook" option.
If you want to return to the old design, select "switch to classic"

Eventually, the new design will be rolled out to everyone, so it's worth a look for Facebook users.

Based on what I've seen, people are already writing work-arounds so that the new Facebook will show the newsfeed instead of just groups and marketplace

I don't particularly like the new design so i'll do my best to avoid it until it's forced.

I wonder how long it'll be before FB blocks the workarounds.

I've got a great workaround, I can't see the new design at all!

... then again it might be because I deleted my Facebook stuff several years ago and haven't looked back, lol. If Facebook learned anything from myspace they won't stop users from customizing their own profiles.

If Facebook is anything like Twitter as it relates to development, the answer would probably be "never"

I've been using "Good Twitter" since Twitter rolled out it's current UI disaster last year -- I'm guessing that Facebook won't care about the workarounds as long as they think they are displaying more ads than before (ad display is the driving force behind these so-called site updates)

I'm currently using (Firefox addon) F.B. Purity v29.3.1 for Facebook so we'll see how it goes. As it is now, I'm good with not having to look at all of the Facebook rubbish.

Interesting. I'll take a look, although, i'm not too troubled by the "classic" design.

I make sure i'm using the FB container to stop data bleed, and social fixer to block all the nonsense. What neither of those things does is to change FB's design.

I have experimented with the new design and in fairness, it is pretty good. I do however keep reverting back to the classic interface. I think it's just more through force of habit. It looks as if Facebook are putting a fair bit more emphasis on video content. It would be good if they were able to offer a service more on par with YouTube for video sharing and content.
