According to Techcrunch, Facebook is testing a "snooze" feature to allow users to temporarily mute contacts, Pages or Groups in your newsfeed for fixed periods of 24 Hours, 7-days, or 30-days.

The idea of the feature is that is stops people unfriending entirely.

A Facebook spokesperson confirms it’s testing the Snooze feature, telling TechCrunch “We’re testing new ways to give people control over their News Feeds so they can stay connected with the stories they find most relevant.” Report: Facebook Tests Snooze Feature to Temporarily Mute Contacts [techcrunch.com]

I've seen this in the settings menu with discussions. I didn't really understand what it is for... all "muting" does is stop you from seeing responses from other. They still post and everyone else can see it AFAIK.

I do totally agree on this. What's the point of this feature?
"The idea of the feature is that is stops people unfriending entirely." Problem is if you do mute someone you are most likely want to unfriend this person as well.
