Mark Zukerberg calls President Obama to express concerns over privacy

Facebook is concerned about the users' privacy? Now, that's confusing.

It does require individuals and businesses such as FB to stand up for these things. As individuals, it takes a lot of movement to get action.

There's also that issue that FB is probably concerned that people will stop using their online services, and therefore they'd lose users and potential revenue. It's in FB's interest to object.

The other problem here is that there's a user agreement with FB, but no user agreement with the spying agencies. I can't opt out of the government spying, but I can opt out of FB. I guess if I go offline...

Yes, the tech industry heavy-weights are TOTALLY at odds with the government...

I agree spying by the US has gotten to the point I don't talk about business on the phone I don't rant on the net and I don't trust the net security, but coming from you mark kiss my a.

Also, you know Zuckerberg has to be one of the President's pals to get an audience with him.

If your a regular Facebook user the data they have stored on you is far greater than any other entity that exists; corporate or government, nothing comes close. In fact, if you combined all other entities that have any type of data stored on you it would pale in comparison to FB.

The entire FB business model is based upon knowing as much about you as they possible can, and their not going to draw some ethical line in the sand, not with the type of money thats involved. Good old government spying is fueled by paranoia and a creepy urge to invade peoples privacy all wrapped up in a cloak of patriotism.

FB data collecting is powered by money; billions and billions of dollars - nothing is stopping that train.

In FB's defence, people have a choice to sign up to Facebook. There is definitely an extra amount of 'leakage' though... i.e. people not on there that can be identified.

Exactly - The only caveat is people can't really comprehend, and FB sure aint making it crystal clear to every person "invited", the power and magnitude of the data collecting and storing thats goes on.

You know just like freedom of speech, what you say and post on the Internet needs to be what you want "out there". It's not like FB can know anything about you unless you offer it up.

However, it is advisable to be aware of what is out there about you and what others are posting, saying, sharing that you may not be privy to or realize the information could get you in trouble. I was quoted, out of context, when an employee's computer had traces of child #*$! found in the browsing history.

After detectives scanned the system and only found files with graphic names, I made a public comment. You can image how that comment came out on quotes from me someone ranked on an Inet search.

Interesting how varying perspectives make all the difference...

Oh...and, on a Zuckerberg-note: I just attended an Education Technology that was giving examples of the power of social media. Just have to share this video post that touched so many hearts...even Zuck's;-)
