Facebook on Tuesday debuted a step-by-step online guide aimed at helping small businesses use the social networking site. The company is billing the new webpage, found at Facebook.com/business, as an "online education center" that gives directions on such things as how to set up a profile page, create targeted ads and deals, and interact with customer feedback online....

...Facebook’s new business webpage does not come along with any new features — it simply puts a lot of information that may be handy for small businesses in one place.

"Nice timing" refers to the timing of the announcement, which comes a week after Google began closing company profiles on Google+. At least the competition is prompting FB to produce some decent documentation....

Facebook had to do this to keep up.

I'm still not convinced as it seems a little half-hearted, imho.

Definitely half-hearted. I think they should have a sort of native landing page builder, rather than requiring you to use a plugin and host your images on another site, etc. It's not user-friendly at all. You should be able to make a nice landing page, like the famous Red Bull landing page, etc. (with an arrow pointing at the like button) simply, without having to leave Facebook.

Very similar to another site they already created. I've looked through the below and I actually think it's a good inspiration and would offer ideas to those new to the facebook platform

Techcrunch has a +1 company profile marked up as page author that now leads to a 404 error. Why would google block businesses on +1? Fill that void Facebook, google's dropping the ball imo.
