Today, we’re launching updates to the Comments Box plugin with new moderation tools as well as features to improve the distribution and quality of comments on your site.

More Social Relevance
The upgraded Comments Box uses social signals to surface the highest quality comments for each user. Comments are ordered to show users the most relevant comments from friends, friends of friends, and the most liked or active discussion threads, while comments marked as spam are hidden from view.

Ya know, I have a difficult enough time figuring out my websites' structure, much less Facebook's.

Simple, one line of code. It could replace my comment system which took years to build.

Besides, it seems that Google no longer thinks comments on a site are a good thing, so I'm going to give facebook a chance.

Wouldn't it be cool if those of us who operate UGC sites which have been hammered by the Farmer Update could replace our Google traffic with facebook traffic? Wake me up, I must be dreaming.

A lot of big-name sites are testing this plug-in, like TechCrunch, and Examiner. It will be interesting to see the results.

It's not that Google thinks comments are a bad thing, it's that if your site gets an average of 50 comments per article you need to KEEP ON GETTING 50 comments per article just to maintain rankings benefits, imo of course.

I'm not sure I'm liking Facebook right now, since they told Congress they plan to share mobile cell numbers with 3rd parties.

And there is a good change that you don't own any of the comments that are placed using that one line of code. Have yet to review their terms and conditions for content ownership.

Also, forget about any long tail benefit from search engines - all they see is a line of javascript.

This all changed last Wednesday. From what I see, unless your comments are 400 characters long and in perfect English, they will hurt your rankings. I was about to start on a project to move all my comments to being displayed through AJAX so Google couldn't crawl them. This is a better solution.

Your assuming too much about comments and quality. Comments are helpful. You just need to moderate them.
