Heh, that's funny. For internal MAMP purposes, all my sites are called example.local, entered as such in my computer's hosts file. Sure, I could have used .internal, but that's three more letters to type. (Besides, it didn't occur to me.)

Technically .local has slightly a different use: it is supposed to be used on your LAN, in particular form multicast discoverable hosts. Similarly .localhost is supposed to be used for loopback on the same machine.

In theory using .local might be problematic as you might override something else - only likely on a large LAN so I think its fine for use on home networks.

This is supposed to be for other internal use: e.g. corporate networks that might span multiple LANs at different sites.

Yes, I added all the dot local hostnames so I wouldn't have to reconfigure MAMP every time I want to look at a secondary site instead of the default localhost.

But Peru and Brazil are still ticked off about .amazon.
