Over the years I have had nothing but trouble with this company for co.uk names, both its attitude and, withour doubt, the most deplorable interface of any website!
Now, without notice, they have hiked their co.uk prices by more than double.
That's it, I'm gone from them for ever.
Again? .co.uk were a couple of pounds a year. Then someone decided they weren't making enough money and they went up to at least 10 pounds a year with 123-reg. I've reduced my stash of .co.uk
They surely haven't doubled again since then? What sort of price do you think you can reliably get them for longish term?
Since UK businesses/people will no longer be able to "renew" their .eu domain names (themselves), certainly that, someone, somewhere, believed to be clever, thinking that eventually, there will be a wave of apocalyptic panic, and .eu owners would rush to get a .co.uk, for not running out of business ...
Their price for co.uk has gone from £4.99 in 2016 to £14.99 now, I've managed to get everything moved to my main regsitrar at about £5
.eu was supposed to be dying for us and I did actually let ALL of mine go but did re-register my actual company name again a few months back.
If they get awkward I'll do it through our German office if needs be however I'm seriously considering dropping all extensions except .com and a few .uk since there hasn't been any advantage for years now.
To stick with .com was my philosophy since the beginning . I was tempted , at some point , to get country level extensions for some of my sites, but thought it was useless, and a problem in the future.
Now, there is an issue not to minimize when you give up an extension... When you do so, you can be almost sure that someone will register the domain name as soon as it effectively expires, and it might be a source of problems in the future, depending of what this new owner will do.
The established.co.uk sites I have will stay that way since they are well-known and recognised, successful UK businesses that principally do business in their local county / state, for instance a very successful hotel / pub that is easily found when searching for hotel / town / region, live music / town / region and food/restuarant / town / region.
That site is run hand-in-hand with its FB page with thousands of followers and both of which generate completely different responses / results.
