hi all,

I was wondering if you can register a domain with high CPC for its keyword, (lets say: car insurance) and then park it:

1) Would all the ads be related to Car Insurance?
2) Would you be able to earn decent value clicks?
3) Would your domain need back links to show relevant ads?
4) How would the exact match domain compare to a domain such as: USACarInsurance.com

thanks in advance.

1. No. Sometimes I think G is not interested in paying for such clicks or working too hard to make it work. In the old days I could populate landers with relevant keywords. Sigh . .

2. Sometimes. Rarely. People fled the parked domain work in droves due to click fraud. Google allowed advertisers to opt out. YMMV. I sometimes get nice clicks but ain't nothing like the old days.

3) Want to get busted, right out of the gate? Sure, go ahead. Drive traffic to a parked domain. Let me know how it goes. Might even get you banned from other G programs.

4) .Com -> .Org -> Good luck chuck. Exact match, high volume search keyword .coms have a slight chance of paying for themselves. Even killer domains have taken a hit.

YMMV. If a domain is THAT GOOD then it may have potential - far greater - in the aftermarket.

I get a chuckle out of those parking a domain (putting out to pasture) and expecting it to perform like a thoroughbred.

I found a decent domain EMD, keyword (CPC=over $5) in the .co extension and figured it may generate some income if I park it via GoDaddy. Before parking I figured I could add some backlinks for little traffic or maybe put up a banner with the domain listed thinking people may actually type in the domain name! I know its an old trick but kinda got excited to snatch this domain and figured I may be able to monetize a bit without doing much work...

And you decided to ignore Webwork's advice because...?

Excuse my ignorance but how do you know what the CPC is ex ante (before the clicks happen)? CPC with what, Adsense?

I said that I had "figured"... in other words that was my initial plan.
how do you know what the CPC is?
Google Adwords Suggested Bid is $19 for Keyword1_Keyword2 and $30 for a small variation, something like keyword2_keyword1. So I'm only guessing that it may generate over $5 dollar clicks. I may be wrong!

I noticed before (about a year ago) that I usually get less than half of my initial CPC estimation hence why im thinking and hoping I receive at least 4-5 dollar clicks for the first time.

btw I prefer to use adsense alternatives and maybe park the domain with GoDaddy or even another company.

You should definitely try this, then report back on how it went. If this works, then it will confirm that I have been going at this making money on the web thing all wrong.

Let me summarize, to be sure I understand your strategy:
    Buy EMD
Put no content on it (minimal content == no content)
    Put ads
Buy links to point at domain
Get traffic from Google for keyword that matches domain name.
If no traffic from Google, then get traffic from users typing myexactmatchdomain.co
Find ad network that will fill ad space based on the domain name
Users that land on this page will click on ads
    Make money
    Repeat

Did I understand your strategy correctly?

A few problems I see:
1- You will get no traffic from Google
2- Links will get you penalized, which doesn't really make a difference given point 1
3- Not all ads on the site will be relevant to keyword, most likely no ads will be relevant to the keyword, so no 15$ clicks.
4- Users that arrive on the site will see it as parked or spam and leave and not click on ads for fear of clicking on malware.

So please go ahead do this and report back. Because as much as I am being facetious, on certain level I am being sincere. I see many sites out there created using similar strategies and I say to myself how can anybody make any money doing this, but maybe I am wrong. Because my strategy of building great content works to some extent but it is still and long road to profitability.

On a side note, if you think this is such a profitable space and you have access to this domain then why not create a real site with real content? Think of something, don't try and change the world but just enough to get a few real users, at 15$ a click you don't much to be profitable.

And if your going to spam, then create a blog and sell links to others trying to rank in the space, at 15$ a click I am sure there others trying similar strategies that are willing to spend on buying links You will make more from the selling the links then waiting for the golden clicks. Add a few ads to the mix and bingo, you get the best of both worlds.
