Type in traffic is not a consideration. I am not looking at building a major brand based on the domain name and I see no value in having them both and redirecting one as I would still be wondering which one would be the redirect?
Its more about SEO. I am aware that .org should be non commercial but I have .org sites that have done very well commercially despite that extension.
Which one would you develop?

Is it possible to localize the domain? Bostonwidget.com, widgetusa.com, widgetamerica.com..etc
Maybe add a few other words? thewidgetshop.com, mywidget.com, widgetsource.com, widgetwarehouse.com..etc
Hyphens just seem so 2003, I'm sure if you search hard enough you'll find something that works better than both of your current options. Have you searched expired domains?
"Strong" ~ 10 million results for exact match phrase with a strong commercial nexus, preferably the 2 words that describe/define the industry: Widget-Manufacturer.
Even 2 hyphens have been known to work . . exceedingly well. ;)
