No Match in the Registrar Database

When I try and look up the whois information on a domain at GoDaddy, it says there is no record in the database. When I try the whois information at NetworkSolutions, it says there is no record in the database, but that the registrar is Godaddy.

I have been buying domains since 97 and have never seen this before. Anyone know what is going on here?

If memory serves me I used to see messages like this when a domain was "just registered" at drop time - when many were attempting to nab the same domains. For a few hours a "no record" message would appear but everyone knew that someone had grabbed the domain and the actual registration record hadn't been captured by the central registry.
