what does 'primarily affilate' mean

It seems that a common theme amongst paid directories is that they don't accept sites that are 'primarily affiliate links'. Fair enough.

However, how do directory owners treat sites that are primarily information/comparison sites that are monetized by affilate stuff? i.e., pages of content, but the content is intended to convert via affiliate stuff. Say a page that has 'product a features' beside 'product b features', with a buy now affiliate link at the bottom of the page.

Does those get discarded automatically? If so, other than a general 'quality' comment, any specific thoughts on what can make a difference in getting an affiliate site listed in paid directories?

I think it's an attitudinal thing. If you think of it as an "affiliate site", it probably is an affiliate site, and it probably shows.

If you think of it as a personal site with some affiliate links, that'll show through also.

In practice, there aren't many borderline sites.

Most times, editors will try to find an answer to the question: "If you remove everything that is affiliate content or serves to push people towards affiliate content - what does remain?". And as hutrcheson pointed out, the answer to that question relies on the specific site, and on the person reviewing it.

Most directory owners are intimately familiar with affiliate sites an attitudes vary, but the key lies in the word "primarily"

some, delete all such applications on sight,

If it is a really informative site with affiliate links, most directories will be okay with that.

If its an informative site, and you've requested a featured listing, you'll probably get listed every time

However, a script generated site, identically in most material ways to the 100 that where submitted yesterday , would probably be deleted, straight away.
