Mysql client compress

Should I use it?

I'm reading mixed information on this, and most of it is from 2010!

I have MySQL on the same server as the websites that use it. So is there any value in using MYSQL_CLIENT_COMPRESS, or does that really only have value when MySQL is on a dedicated server?

Compression adds overhead, so I wouldn't expect it to help locally. Of course, the best answer here would be a benchmark.
