Newbie Database model help

It's been many years since I did anything with databases but I want to design and implement a website for my collection of paper programmes from events like football (soccer). I'm using mysql Workbench but don't know if I've done this right. Any help would be appreciated. I want to store details of my collection including the teams playing, event, date of the event, how I obtained the programme and details of other programmes I still need to add to my collection. Once I have the database and queries I plan to use Wordpress for the front end.

Wordpress runs from a database (.sql) so you don't have to reinvent the wheel to use it to categorize things. That's what WP does with posts and/or pages. You can create categories and then post to that category and add tags. A post with all the details can be found by using tags that you add to the post. You can use "teams", "dates", "location" tags (you decide) that would all include any related posts. Visitors can find related posts (or pages) by any of the tags you add, so items (posts) would show up in any collection with a related tag and may easily show up in multiple collections or categories.

If you create your own .sql database you would be doing manually what WP is designed to do automatically. I'm not trying to discourage you from your project, but it would fit right in to the way WP works without going to the extra trouble.

Ya I know I have a few Wordpress sites but I wanted the option for this to stand alone too. To be honest it's a little project to take me forward on to a much bigger project that is also a database. So it's a means to an end, firstly I want to get my brain working fully again after struggling with my health for the last few years and not doing much at all.

If you ultimately want to integrate it with a Wordpress site then your best option would be to create a custom wordpress plugin to achieve this.

There are a lot of really good basic tutorials that cover how to create a plugin, as well as create tables in the database to store and retrieve your data. This is going to be your best route to success... if, you plan on landing in Wordpress at the end of it all because once you have it working you won't have to integrate it, it will already be integrated.

Ok so people are really talking about Wordpress and it doesn't help me as much as it's appreciated. I really need someone who can hold my hand on designing this model. Wordpress is not the problem I have. As I've already said I want to progress my database skills for other reasons, I'll try and edit the OP to remove the WP ref.
