MySQL and PHP on Windows XP

Please help me understand how to run MySQL and PHP on Windows XP

I would like to run MySQL and PHP on Windows XP for a small "web app" that would only be accessible for the local area network. It seems like I will have to install Apache. Can you explain to me how to configure this so that it will not be accessible from the world wide web but just run locally?

I have been doing a lot of Googling but am confused.
