MySql dump and xml

Hello, I am creating a test dump with phpmyadmin and was wondering what the benefits up dumping into an xml file are?

Normally phpmyadmin dumps a sql file which can be reimported into a mysql database.

So if you can let me know specifically what you are trying to achieve maybe I can guide you
