An OAP newbie here. Trying to teach myself CSS with no success. I'm quite handy with Dreamweaver and i have read various articles/chapters on CSS but it just isn't going in. And, the more i read the more confused i get.

Question.... do i have to create an empty box first and then add an image to it or can i just add the image to a blank page and then have CSS center it on the page. I'm using a Dreamweaver blank page to build the webpage AND i have linked the CSS stylesheet to it.

If i get the page built it will just have 5 rows with an image aligned center in each row all with a width of 974px but 5 different heights. Plus another row same width but whose height will go up and down depending on what i add to it.Not sure what else i need to state

Re: Notepad++ - I hope you downloaded it from the source (http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus/) and not some download site.. your comment about a strange page opening would concern me. Some software download sites bundle in unwanted stuff that can be hard to track down and eradicate. No need to use IE, use the browser you normally use. I have long maintained that IE is not a browser, it is a browser downloader, but that is my personal opinion. There is a post up this week here: [webmasterworld.com...] that identifies a vulnerability in all versions of IE so I would avoid using it at least until you have installed the latest Security Update.

Re: fixing your links - you can use lucy24's example:

<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheetA.css">

in a local environment - all the files in one folder. Before you upload this work to your domain so that the link points to where the resource resides, relative to the location of the link.

At this point you are miles ahead of what most people knew before they learned it all the hard way, trial and error, read, try, read some more, fix. You can do it, we all did.

I suggest that this thread has reached the end of "how to create a CSS box". Any further discussion regarding menus, link hovers, etc. should be a new topic titled "dugdev and (fill in the query).

Just kidding!, though we all are having fun watching grasshopper grow and achieve.

Hi........ Ok i went back into "panic-mode" at:-

I still feel like i am swimming against the tide wearing a life preserver BUT 5 weeks ago(ish) i had NO life preserver and was going down for the third time.
So, as far as this thread goes i say "GOODBYE and offer my thanks and appreciation for ALL the comments and advice and SUPPORT and most of all your PATIENCE". I'm sure i'll have tons of questions in the future but aim to make them "specific" and not "all-encompassing". I will recommend you to make a div first and then give that div box little cute shades.

It will be good now to place an image inside it.
