Plus, this is basically an invitation to every bottom-feeder template creator to spam the forums (it has started already, but a member reported it and an admin deleted it before I woke up this morning).

Also, it's a matter of personal taste. I honestly can't think of better advice than what ken_b gave. Personally, I usually end up doing about 50 search variations, decide nobody has anything I like, and then using a base template and starting from scratch.

I don't know Joomla, but Wordpress and Drupal have a concept of "framework" or "base" themes that provide a lot of point and click options and you can start there and customize.
