How would one go about checking that someone hasn't put your copyrighted material in apps?

Do apple or google offer some way of 'searching' app content?

Have you looked around the app stores for Apple & Google to see if they have mechanisms in place to handle that?

Don't know of any specific investigative tools to detect if code is infringed. However, if you suspect another app is very close in function to your own, I imagine there may be a way of opening it up with the developer api toolkit and checking.

This is just a guess. You haven't described exactly what you're looking for.

I would need to actually do string searches because just downloading app in my sector would be an endless, thankless task unfortunately.

Seems a shame that Apple/G doesn't offer this to app developers or indeed any IP owners.
