I just got a Webmaster World Stickymail headed "Copywriting services" that read:

"I am contacting you regarding article writing services. I have been writing for the last 3 years. Currently I am working with [Specifics Removed]. Visit the link below to view some of my work:
[link removed]

"I charge $10 for 400 words article. I will be glad working with you."

Ten bucks? And that's the *asking* price? Publishers need to remember the adage that "You get what you pay for."

I think if a person were looking for someone to write articles you might find that $10 is on the high end of the scale, I have seen far lower quotes.

Not to disparage the genuine writers out there who do a great job of researching a topic to give you good value for a noticeably higher fee.

Like site design, development and graphics, "You get what you pay for." indeed.

Sounds like the level of language proficiency you'd expect at $10 for a page and a half of text.

Why! People pay as low as $ 5 [five] per 500 words. And buyers seems to get native writers working at this rate.

Pay peanuts, get monkeys. Copywriting is the new linkbuilding, a race to the bottom with quantity offered instead of quality. Not good.

And to be honest if some random contacted me on a forum like this they would be on my ignore list rather quickly :)

To be honest... I pay $3.00/page for grammatically correct placeholder copy. A freelance writer is not a Subject Matter Expert no matter how good their wordsmithing is and SMEs generally cost $5.00/word or more.
