Photocopying a page of a text from book does not transfer the copyright to the copier..nor does screen-shotting a photo..or photographing a screen with a photo on it..

Ownership of a work and ownership of it's copyright are two different things..usually the owner of the work owns the copyright, but not always..

An example of a photo affected by this ..

The night time lighting on the Eiffel Tower is copyright..so you can take a photo of the tower by day and use it on your website..

But you cannot take a photo of the tower by night ( lit up ) and use it.. some people have..and some have had problems..

The screen shot is his ..but he cannot use it or distribute it..without your permission, unless it is being used for a "review" or otherwise covered by "fair use"..

To cut it short the photo of a photo belongs to whom?

you can insist that he removes your photo from his photo, before he uses his photo..

His photo of your photo would, I believe, be considered a "derivative work", in that he used your creative work to make "his" own work.

As the copyright owner, you have the rights to all derivative works, also. In particular, you get to decide what derivative works are created. This means that you have every right to object to his picture of your picture.
