Content for e-Commerce and Panda

Say I have a fledgling e-commerce (affiliate) site that sells "blue shirts". My pages/categories are broken down into blue t-shirts, blue long-sleeves, blue sweatshirts... and then further down into light blue t-shirts, light blue long-sleeves, etc.

What can I do to avoid duplicate content (Panda) penalties? Particularly, what's mentioned in:

[googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com...]

"Does the site have duplicate, overlapping, or redundant articles on the same or similar topics with slightly different keyword variations?"

I have about 1 to 2 paragraphs of text content on every page (including category and sub-category pages). But I worry that the targeted keywords+content are too similar.

Any advice?

Get your writer's cap on or hire a content writer. (wink)

This is one problem that affects ecommerce and affiliate sites - they need content for the search engines to analyize plus your description in the results needs to stand out from the crowd.

What I've done temporarily is follow all pages, index the categories (highest search vol), noindex subcats (seems to be pretty standard to not have much content in subcats), and index and try to get more content on product pages.

It just doesn't seem fitting to have a lot of content on subcategory pages as they're usually just for drilling down.

Is this noindex solution a bad idea?

It seems like seo for ecommerce is a lot more complicated than some other site types. I can't even imagine working with faceted nav.
