How do you deal with guest post submissions?

I run several blogs and websites.

Lately, I have been getting more and more emails volunteering to write content for me -- many of which comes from agencies/SEOs. Some even say they'll pay me to post the content of their clients (with a few even going as far to say that the payment is dependent on the visibility of the content).

In exchange, they want a live dofollow link mostly from within the article (or at least in the author's bio).

I know this is article marketing's next level, where the author/their reps pitch a seemingly original content to other sites and link from them.

How do you deal with this type of content offering? Do you allow to get paid to post other people's content on your site? Or is that going over to the dark side where Google is concerned?

Waited a bit to see if anyone would chime in. For me, "offers" of content like this are examined very closely. These type of postings/articles are for the poster's benefit, not the site owners, ad in most cases are just a form of link dev to credit their sites. However, sometimes one can get a nice article/post and not give up all that much. Take each on a case by case basis, but do know it is usually for their good, not yours.

I used to be more open to these "offers" but there just seems to be deluge of it all of a sudden for my websites/blogs. I still do deals with publishing houses/book publicists trying to promote their new books as I am sure they provide quality content.

But I hear you tangor. It really is for their benefit, especially if you have a well established content creation system (aka, your own writers)

Hey Alika!
What you need is some strict rules of guestposting.. like these:

1) post topic should be highly relevant to my website and add value;
2) post length - 1000 words min, with proper text formatting (headings, bullet points, pictures, etc);
3) shameless self promotion is not accepted;
4) your link can only be placed in the author bio section at the end of the post.

if the contribution meets all of the above - why not to publish it?

In my opinion guest posting benefit both ways, it benefits the guest writer in the form of backlinks and it benefits the website owner in terms of traffic. Because if the post is quality, it will surely get visitors.

But make sure that you allow only those guest posts that are of same theme and are providing quality content that would appeal the user. Approve the guest posts only after reviewing them properly.

I'd also confirm that the exact same article isn't being posted at other sites like yours.
