Article Ripped Off Is It Worth the Hassle of Defending

I just seen an article I wrote several years back ripped of and republished on ezine. Is it worth defending. I mean I am annoyed that I am not credited as the author and this website are obtaining authority links off the article but is it worth doing anything about. I mean I know I wrote it and so does the author. Does it matter as long as the message is out there?

I don't know anymore, if we live in a free ride society which I would like to see is copyright irrelevant?

Hi Jane_Doe

They are basically scam artists. I have had it happen a couple of times that I know of. Probably a lot more times that I don't know about.

So should I go after them?

That is a personal call you have to make.

What you can do rather easily is put a disclaimer on your site that you are not affiliated with x forum in anyway. You can also block people from accessing your site from any forum links with a "deny from whateverforum.com" command in your .htaccess code.

You could also post in the forum yourself and set things straight or try to contact the forum moderators. But you know there are millions of forums around so if this person is set on imitating you it could get to be a no-win game game of whackamole.

They might also just be trying to "theme" the forum and have another poster put links to their spam site which might be on the same topic as your site.

I think at the weekend I will try to scope out just what this person is up to. At the moment I have just seen about 4-5 forum posts and they were quite well written, they even had me wondering if I had written them myself!

If I get a better understanding of what this person is up to, perhaps I can decide what to do.
