protecting sites from content theft

how to handle the big site issue

We manage various big site who are ghaving all real original copyright content. We initially rank very good and once we are into the good positions, spammers or automatic crawlers crawl the sites and they start coping the site content.

Some chinese and japanese webmasters especially. site is protected with copyscape and all no right cick oprion no select and all but still when we check after couple of month, we can easily found huge number of sites using small or big content from our site.

It is not easy to contact the site owners, who actually dont reply as they dont have real address and # or they dont care to reply. And also it is not easy or feasible to sue everybody.

I am now tired of this issue... as happpens every time.. What could be the solution as we really invest hard in content and dont want to loose business due to these spammers. This happens on big sites only like over 1000 pages or so

Please guide.....

I think internet is full of your experience. Advantage is hear your budget and speed. Do not forget that information flows sun speed. So, aim is to make money soon as possible and make changes soon as possible. Changes are crucial part to be the best. See google. They are worth more than GM and can develope office in the future for internet web based application and better than any other like Microsoft.

If most of the content is stolen by bots or is hosted in a particular country, which you are not marketing to, I would ban that country using IP ranges. You can get a free database of IP addresses to country and just ignore them.

I do something similar with PHP/MySql, not .htaccess as there are so many ranges.

I go even further and block sessions and ip addresses that hammer the website or keep crawling it, not just by the unreliable browser agent.

I agree that copyscape is a good tool for finding your copyright .

Neither of these methods offer a lot of protection. No right click scripts are a waste of your time, and Copyscape will merely help you find the culprits. After you find them, it's up to you to deal with them.

Now you need to take the next steps: contact the infringers' advertisers and ISPs, and look into sending DMCA notices.

There is another issue to deal with when the content is scrapped from smaller sites.

As smaller sites are less often crawled and bigger ones more often.It had been noticed many a times that Bots consider the scrapped content on the scrapper site as original and the small sites are penalized for duplicate content which originally was their creation.

How would you suggest to over come this problem?
