Design an content updatable website

do I need a backend database

Hi,
I need to design a website for a shop, it only need to display item information such as Code, description, price and display images, no online order, payment system needed.
But the shop site content need to be updatable by shop owner, do I must use database for the updating content area?

Anybody can help, please give some advice.

I will not ask why you don't want to accept online orders!

But I think it might be better to look for a web catalogue management software or content management system or even a shopping cart like zen cart or oscommerce. This will make it easier on you and the shop owner to maintain and update the website.

It is for an antique shop. Item will not sell online, the site only as a catalogue to show what are available in the shop, and the cost. But the owner need to be able to update the site himself when item sold or price has changed.

What will be the best way to do this Admin area?
Are zen cart or oscommerce both ready made shopping system? sorry I am new to these terms.

Being new to OScommerce, but not new to web design...

the only drawback I can see with OSC is the fact that yes it's simple to add a picture, write a description, enter a price...

but...OSC needs lots of "tweaks" to make it more than a "generic" store website....

The "vanilla" product display is just that...."basic"

It needs a bit of HTML to make a nice presentation...
If the store owner can "learn" how to edit some example code....then they should be ok with that...

The other issues with OSC.....no page title handling, totally unfriendly URL's...etc, can be resolved with a couple of free plug-ins available at the OSC forums.

Coppermine or some other photogallery might be an option that fits this need.

You have to go for edit the basic code if u dont use database, but if u use cms u have to use database then u dont need to go for code edit, it will be enough for the three button add edit delete.
