Excellent content. Where to put it?

Giving this content away or keeping it on our site.

I am writing excellent "how to buy" and "things you should know before buying" content about a particular type of vacation. I estimate this content will run into thousands of words, split into different sections (signs of quality in services offered, how to prepare, what to look out for, common problems and misunderstandings).

I am intending to put this content on our website, but I am wondering about making this content available for other, general websites to use.

Initially, I was thinking to give it away free as long as the website linked to us. I know that some top travel websites would love to have this content. Would it be a better idea to break the content up into themed sections and give these out instead? Or would be smart to have the content on our website and email travel websites letting them know about this content and hope they link in their own time.

After reading through the messages here, it seems that my site will get slammed for duplicate content. Do I need to have two versions of this content?

First you could make money by putting this content on a website with adsense (or banners etc...)
Or you could sell this info to other websites.
If you want to do both, you will hurt yourself with the "dublicate content penalty". In that case it is better to make 2 versions, one for your site and one version for sale.
Sites who don't want to pay for your content could put a link to your site and so give good info to their readers.

First, the one thing you do not want to do is have the content both on your site and other sites.

If the content is going to be as good as you say I'd place it on your site, then consider writing similarly themed -- but very different -- ariticles that you can post on the many free article repositories for other sites to use.
