I have recently added a "latest widget news" section on my site.

I research information from a wide range of sites regarding the latest happenings on my sites widgets and rewrite (not copy and paste) an article and post in in my news section.

I have read lots of threads regarding news updates and copyright etc. and know that copy & paste / stealing articles and adding them to your site is an obvious no no.

But I just want to clarify that actually finding out the latest news from open websites (no subscription) and writing a completely new article on the same subject is ok.

Obviously any quotes used are mentioned where it was reported ie. Joe Bloggs said in an interview to Fox News "Blah blah blah widget".

I also add links to sites related to the subject.

Can anyone see any wrong or can offer any advise?

Thanks in advance.

If you're doing research on the other sites and then writing your own article (with proper attribution, as you mention), there should be no problem. Even better if you can combine facts from various sites that will be of interest to your readers and put your own spin to them. The mantra is - Facts can't be copyrighted, only how they're presented. Put in some effort to make that presentation yours instead of someone else's.

Thanks Beagle, I just really wanted to 100% make sure that its ok. I completely understand that it needs to be a different article but obviously you cant change some words as they are the story.

Thanks again.
