As I understand it, titles cannot be copyrighted. Neither can names of book characters.

More than copyright issues, you might want to think about whether the name will bring people there who are looking for something other than your site. That would depend on how well-known the book is.

Of course, you can always pick up the domain and then ask the author if he wants to buy it from you... ;)

I have a site with a one word name, which is also the title of a book published 10-15 years ago. It's not a dictionary word, but has been used generically by others, so I don't think anyone can claim exclusivity.

One other thing to consider are trademarks - If you tried to publish a "Widgets For Dummies" you would soon receive a nice letter from the publishers of the For Dummies series.

How does the site topic relate to the book topic? Any possibility of confusion?

I'm assuming you are not going to have a site based on this book? so where's your problem..

People can't just copyright every single word in the dictionary, to breach copyright you would have to be making money off the back of the authors intellectual property..

The site's topic is totally different from the book's, so there should be no problem here...
