I own and operate article directory web site for more than one year. I found it as good as having community web site if you know what I mean.
But I need to know webmasters and internet gurus opinion about article directory in terms of relationship with search engine, source quality content, future and developments, income opportunities… etc

I'm sure you have done very well; getting people to submit their work for your benefit is an achievement to be proud of (no, I'm serious!).

The problem is, that article creators are gradually waking up to the fact that they give you much more than you give them - in most cases - and I'm really not making any comment specifically at you.

In addition, the success for article farmers has not gone unnoticed by the short-on-ideas brigade, and new article farms, most of negligable value, however you analyze them, are springing up to steal market share, just as clone directories did two years ago.

My feeling - and I admit I was never a fan - is that the glory days are over, the market has been flooded, and the 'punters' are getting wise.

But your perspective might be very different; how does it look from where you are, one year into it?

Hello, netrider,

What I would like to add is probably a quite straightforward question about what was your initial idea when you started your project? I would like you to excuse me if you find my question too direct but once we know the answer of the above question, we may give you the right answers.
To add: in general, my observations of this specific field - article directories - are just the same as Qudrille's. The greatest challenge of an article directory's owner, in my honest opinion, remains how to motivate people to work for you and *to keep their zeal and enthusiasm alive* in a now very opportunity rich web-environment.
And not to forget - I am very eager to have your comment and continue our discussion in a more concrete way.

Quadrille's analysis is about the best I’ve seen. I mean really if the article is that good why give it away. With a worse case scenario you’ll earn $5.00 a year with Adsense by people just stumbling on the page within your own site. With the article sites they just put Adsense on your pages and the top spammers will reword your articles with no back links to you. If you achieve any links many will be from questionable sites most with no PR. Really most quality sites don't farm article sites for content.
