Each article I create has a purpose. Perhaps it's for article submission, perhaps it's for a website, or perhaps it's for something else.

I don't use the same article for two different main purposes. For instance, I wouldn't take an article and add it to a site of mine and then submit it to article submission sites.

Yes, I would also like not to do article syndication, but it produces inbound links and traffic.

If you publish it on your site and syndicate it, you may lose punch through dup content - one or the other, own publication or synidcation, not both.

You can use two instances of the same article for sindication and posting on your website, just play with it a bit so it won't look the same.

just rewrite remebering your main keyword and publish on your site first.

Even if you publish on your site first,
a quality article directory like Ezinearticles is crawled more frequently.

You can even split the article and publish it to avoid the chances of dup content.

Splitting content on various articles, is definetely a good practise, given that you also get more IBLs.

However splitting has to be meaningful and graceful. Some small articles cannot be split.

Split articles is a great idea and has worked for me in many cases. The first article being generalised and sent for syndication, but where possible linked to the second article on my sites which are more detailed. This way my sites have good content, a link back in from a general interest grabbing article and both are on the same topic.
