Getting news and press releases about widgets

What methods do people use?

Hi all

Currently, for a site I run about widgets, I get news and press release information by going to news websites. Or I will visit widget maker sites directly to see if they have put a news item on there. These methods, as you can imagine, take up time.

I also normally find that some other websites have already written about a news item that I want to cover.

So my question is, what other methods would people in my situation use to go about getting news and press release information as soon as it comes out? I'm guessing I need to be on mailing lists about releases etc, but I don't know where to start! I guess this is more of a journalistic question.

Cheers

You send an email asking to be put on their list.

You could always set up Google alerts for your key "widget" phrases. That way you'll be notified by email whenever Google indexes a new page (press release, article, etc.) about your topic.
