I actually didn't know they still existed, but this news that CompuServe's forums will close on December 15, 2017, was a surprise.

All part of the web's history!

CompuServe was acquired by AOL in 1998, and was never the same thereafter. AOL itself is now part of Oath, which is part of Verizon. And time is finally running out for the forums, which have stuck around in diminished form even as the rest of CompuServe has dwindled away. If I'm remembering it correctly... it was via Compuserve's web marketing forum that I found Virtual Promote, which led me to WebmasterWorld.

When I first checked out WebmasterWorld, though, the forums were virtually empty... almost no threads posted. Must have been right after these forums had first started... so I went back to VP, but eventually got led back here.

CompuServe was one of the only ways to get onto the Internet from Japan in the early 90s. Their forums were a real lifeline for me. However, like Snake Plissken, I thought they were dead.

Heh. Remember when it seemed as if AOL was going to take over the world? AOL-Time-Warner-gobble-gobble-gulp ... and then it all dried up and blew away.

I guess I missed the chapter where AOL acquired CompuServe. I, too, always thought they just disappeared.
