Just cut the number of ad units for my site from 3 to 1.
UGC, particularly from drive-by/SE traffic, has increased by almost 50%.

Interesting, jmorgan. I guess it depends on how big the ads are and where they appear on the page. If they are annoyingly large and visible, I could see more people leaving the site without posting.
