I think they will never provide an export fxn to pull your data off and onto another provider. That just opens to the door to a million facebook alternatives to pop-up. I predict we won't see that function from them, ever.

It would be good if it was not run by the biggest ****** in the industry - which is quite an achievement given the stiff competition.

It will be very difficult given trust given that Mark Zuckerberg has made it quite clear that he does not think privacy matters, which will always make a lot of people take any improvement to be a temporary benefit until they can sneak a way round it.

I'm sure he knows privacy matters but he's sitting on all of these user generated pages and seeing dollar signs. Don't do it Mark.

He only knows that privacy matters to their reputation. They've been walking that fine line between reputation and profits and it was only a matter of time until they stepped too far on the $$$ side. Will their move back from the dark side be timely enough?

Just curious, and to be a thorn in the side. Much as some of us may diss FB (e.g., I trashed my acct) - and analogously much as some of us may get angry with GOOG's Current Incarnation (Reno's 4145761 of 2 June at 5PM)... These are "facts of life", no?

I've seen on webmasterworld no hint of a wholesale boycott of FB (not to mention GOOG, of course) in any way shape or form. Or: how does webmasterworld show enough might to incite corporate change?

Albo, I think its best that WebmasterWorld as a whole, does not have any opinion out outside issues. We can all express our individual thoughts, but WebmasterWorld ought never do so.

Jason's theory is thing of the past. Let any one create something crazy like FB or.. We always attack the creativity. Every one likes $$ sign! How to grow othewise with so much overheads? Give idea that will protect all.

@albo, FB membership numbers are misleading as people may become inactive without actually closing their membership. My usage of Facebook has dropped drastically.
