How to get my visitors to send me pictures

I am a college student and run a website based from my hobby about widgets. I get close to 2k unique visitors a day. Some of these visitors have to be building their own widgets, and I want to get pictures of those. How do I get my visitors to send me photos?

I use a common CMS to power the site, and have allowed any visitor the ability to upload their photos and even create a post about their widget. The infrastructure is there, but the number of people that actually go through those steps is extremely low. I might get 1 person every couple of months to send me pictures. I made a video tutorial explaining how to do it, so there should be no question as to how to upload pics. The process is really easy, so I don't know why more people don't want to send in their pictures.

Has anyone else had experience with something similar to this? Can you share your wisdom in how to to attract more people to upload pictures?

On my site that allows users to upload a picture with their post, we see about 1 out of 100 posts with pictures. It is more work, and a lot of folks just don't have the time or motivation.

All I can say is make sure the process is as easy as it can be, that will help. Also make sure they know the feature is available. If you put the button off to the side, folks might not notice it. Make the option front and center and see if more use it.

Beyond making the upload feature visible and convenient, how about featuring a user photo on the home page or someplace prominent? I think more users would be motivated if they thought their image would appear in some very visible location. You could feature the most recent and keep changing it, rotate among selected images, etc.
