An interesting read on a potential generational change to the methods and style of communication :

A US study has indicated that younger internet users are losing interest in blogging and switching to shorter and more mobile forms of communication.

This article is looking at a pretty young market segment. I don't think many of them were into full blogging that much to begin with.

If any segment of blogging is affected, it's likely the "journal" style which can be accomplished with Twitter, Facebook updates, etc.
