On Monday, the popular social network is officially launching a self-service advertising program called MySpace MyAds that lets small businesses and individuals create ads tailored to the personal information on its users' age, gender, location and interests. The minimum ad buy is $25. Pricing is based on clicks on the advertiser's profile. The ad campaign's performance can be tracked. And small businesses can charge it on a credit card.DeWolfe said 3,500 advertisers are already using the program, which has been in private beta for the past three months.
Some of the traffic I got came from google's content network! From sites that have NOTHING to do with Myspace! Thank you Myspace, I can get that kind of traffic for 10 cents, without paying 30 for "demographic targeting" which does not seem to work properly anyway.
As one of my friends said, "I don't need that traffic for free".
Free one-page health lead-gen offer converted below 1%, with targeting 40+ year old people. Landing page is nice, must've been easy to convert, one would think. Not with Myspace traffic it's not.
Anyway, what makes me mad is their stupid-ass idiotic interface.
You can't set daily budget. You have to set budget (for the life of the whole campaign), set campaign start date - and campaign end date (?!) You can't just set daily budget and increase/decrease it. If, in fact, you want to change budget or campaign end date, you have to... Pause the campaign! Of course! How uber-logical is that! Damn.. I couldn't imagine one could design such unconvinient interface for PPC network.
You are welcome to share your experiences though.
Good luck to all
i asked their ad department for information a few months back and they sent me back "send us your budget." needless to say, i did not send them anything and we never ended up advertising on myspace.
it is a good thing though, this self serve ad system. the company i work for, is loosing with our current strategy and i can't talk the big guy into letting us do much of anything. "things don't change" he says. This gives me the ability to sneak a test in here and there. to get numbers for proof.
Gotta love that. Similar to when you as a salesperson how much her product is, and she asks how much you have to spend... time to run away fast.
I do think the CONCEPT is good - self-serve ad buys with the ability to target by age, gender, and location. Could be very handy for a small biz with a product aimed at a narrow demographic. It sounds like the implementation leaves a lot to be desired, though.
