I have a phpbb forum and would like a social network for my website such as LinkedIn, MySpace, or Facebook. What are my options? Am I stuck forever and ever with a phpbb forum? I don't care about the phpbb software, I just want to keep the posts because they contain a lot of valuable information. I need a forum with the new software so that members can continue to communicate.
In layman's terms, can someone explain where/how the posts are stored and why they can't convert to other forum software?

I just did a search for social network mod for a forum and found one called Zoints, for vbulletin. There are probably more. If you search around a bit you may begin to find social networking add-ons for forums then simply convert your forum to the appropriate forum software then add on the appropriate social networking mod/hack/software.
