Forum Moderators: rogerd
My website is like a social portal, with forums, chat, photo albums etc. In fact, my core business of chat and forums, is something Facebook doesn't offer (well at least not exactly as I have them)
So my question to you guys is (and as a webmaster, you should start asking this question yourself too) How do you compete with Facebook? or do you even comete, and rather just accept it, and move on? of course, my +5000 hits a day website is no match for Facebook. But I am sure there are things we can do as webmaster to stop our members from going to Facebook and spending less time there.
Some of the things I have been doing:
-Never admit to my members that I am in cometetion with Facebook.
-Find any negative articles I can find about Facebook and post them on my forums: such as people getting addicted to it, employers firing people because it and so on. I would like to present it to them as something negative, and not to waste hours and hours on it.
-Try to find which tools or features are most popular on Facebook and try to put them on my website, so people don't have to leave my website.
-And lately, I have been writing toturials for people who need to know how to remove themselvs from Facebook, and so far I have succeded in removing 5 people from there (they spend most of their time on my website now)
What else would or do you do now to compete with Facebook guys?
