Joomla vs. Drupal for community sites

It's a showdown! :-P

Drupal has a reputation for being the tool for making community sites. Yet, I keep hearing Joomla fans insisting that Joomla is just as handy for communities. I'm used to Joomla, but I haven't used it for any community sites yet, so I have no measuring stick to start with.

SO: Which one do you use and why do you prefer it? Is Joomlaboards paired with Community Builder satisfactory or is SMF worth the extra effort? I'd love to hear your opinions.

I always think of these tools primarily for their CMS characteristics, though they do have community features. I'd be tempted to combine the CMS with a best-of-breed community tool if an appropriate bridge for sharing logins existed.

That was part of what I meant when I asked. Which ones have good a good bridge and such. What do you prefer?
