Good morning.

I would like to move my forum from my sub-domain to my main domain name: e.g. forums.mysite.com > www.mysite.com.

Does anybody know of any issues that I should bear in mind before starting this process? My main concern is placing numerous 301 permanent redirect on the old forum messages, does Google have any issues with hundreds, perhaps thousands of permanent redirects suddenly appearing?

Also, if I need to transfer to a brand new domain rather than a sub-domain, are there any issues with cross browser redirecting that I should know about?

Kind regards and thanks in advance,
Cluttermeleon.

First, you want to review the forum software maker's recommendations for the migration procedure.

Assuming your forum will maintain the same structure in the new location, rewriting the URLs with 301s should be easy enough, and shouldn't cause you any Google problems.

I'm not sure about the cross-browser question - I wouldn't expect browsers to affect the migration strategy.
