I have just installed a PhPBB foum on my site. This is the first time I have ever managed a message board (although I have used loads!)

What I was wondering is; are there any things I should be aware of before I officially launch the forum on my site? For example, are there any bits I should change, any addons I should install etc etc?

It's a bit outdated now, but a while back I wrote a short post about securing phpBB for use:

  • phpBB Security Best Practices - A few ideas for keeping your forum secure [webmasterworld.com]

The subsequent thread contains some excellent advice too. Basically, you should get rid of memberlist.php, faq.php, viewonline.php, rewrite all the URLs and simplify the forum templates as much as you can.

For still more info, check the Community Building Library [webmasterworld.com].

Starting a new forum can be time consuming and frustrating, but also a lot of fun. Good luck!

Have less forums. Another fact is that it will not become active soon so gather patience for next 6 months.
