More than one million websites closed down in China last year, a state-run think tank has said.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said there were were 41% fewer websites at the end of 2010 than a year earlier.
Liu Ruisheng said that despite the declining number of sites, the number of web pages had risen to 60 billion during 2010 - a 79% increase on the previous year.

After reduction of about 10^6 sites, there remain around 1.5 x 10^6 sites with a total of 60 x 10^9 pages. (He didn't mean "billion" in the European or 10^12 sense did he?)
Food for thought there. In the US, your dog has a www site. In China, well under 1% of the population does (do they need permission or just money?) ... but those sites average 40,000 pages each for a total of several www pages per person.
What's on all those pages? Anyone know?

Most Chinese websites seem to have enough flashing graphics on them to induce a seizure even in blind people.
