Hey guys,

I have a mobile site that gets redirected through the .htaccess file. There is a link on the mobile site to view the full site. But, when the user clicks on the link, they are always redirected back to the mobile site. I have set up a script to run when the user clicks on the link to access the full site that creates a cookie "mobile=no" on the mobile site.

Im having a real hard time trying to configure the .htaccess file so that, if this cookie is set, don't redirect.

Here is the code:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !^mobile=no$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^m\.stage\.sunjournal\.com$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "android|iPhone|blackberry|iemobile|operamobile|palmos|webos|googlebot-mobile" [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://m.stage.sunjournal.com/$1 [L,R=302]

Before anything else...

You don't want R=302. You want R=301. Unless you genuinely are planning to change your mind about the whole thing next week.

I think you need to look at {THE_REQUEST} and {HTTP_REFERER}.

:: looking vaguely around for g1 ::

In English: Send users to the mobile version if they have only just arrived and haven't yet expressed a preference. (Later you can worry about repeat visitors and decide how to default them.) If they're arriving via the link on your own site, they get the full-size version. And once they're on the full-size version, keep them there.

Oh, and then you'll need a link to the mobile version from the full-size version for users who change their minds. Or whose cookies get garbled. Or who are just chronically nosy ;)

I don't know if this will be of any use to you, but found this one some time ago on the net, which serves me quite well:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /

P.s.: You may have to add some of your own mobile device names up there. Cheers!
