All Google analytics users will soon be required to use Universal Analytics.

Universal Analytics is the re-imagining of Google Analytics for today’s multi-screen, multi-device world and all the measurement challenges that come with it. Since we launched UA in beta, we’ve seen some exciting use cases. Today we’re happy to finally announce: Universal Analytics is out of beta and everyone can use it with the same robust set of features you’re used to with classic Analytics!

Why would they not keep some backwards compatibility? Are they going to make the new code a requirement anytime soon?

Anyone else having problems with the new tracking code? I upgraded my account from Classic to Universal and overwritten the old tracking code, then it stops my website from tracking properly. I'm talking about 80% of my traffic was going unreported. I had to create a new classic account and revert back to the old code to get it tracking properly again.

I had thought maybe because the Universal code is new that Anti-Virus has not caught up yet and they are picking the Javascript up as malware (hence blocking it from loading and not dropping the tracking cookie), but surely not over 80% of it?

Any update on this? With current analytics I've moved loading the ga.js script well after the onload event.
I'm very concerned there will be all sorts of website performance issues if I update.

Years ago I drop analytics, because as I surfed the web, I don't know how many times my browser would hang up waiting for ga.js to load on many sites! I reinstated it two years ago with the superior code, code where you can control when the javascript loads and the statistics all still work. So I really wonder how async "universal analytics" will be.
