Brave, known for its privacy-based web browser, is working on a search engine with privacy in mind. Brave Search will be a privacy-based search engine and is currently in testing phase.
Brave announced the acquisition of Tailcat, the open search engine developed by the team formerly responsible for the privacy search and browser products at Cliqz, a holding of Hubert Burda Media. Tailcat will become the foundation of Brave Search.

Brendan Eich, CEO and co-founder of Brave Software. “Brave’s mission is to put the user first, and integrating privacy-preserving search into our platform is a necessary step to ensure that user privacy is not plundered to fuel the surveillance economy.”

That will be nice to have a new option available, I don't use Google anymore and haven't for over 2 years. I like the Brave browser so I am hopeful they will do a good job with search as well.

Another search engine is always welcomed. I use the Brave browser as a tester. It's ok.

I downloaded the browser, got pestered to invest in cryptocurrencies, then deleted it. I look forward to testing their search engine. In the meanwhile DDG seems to have improved a lot, at least in my UK vertical. There is hope of defeating G yet.

Sounds like it has some built-in adware. I had a similar experience with the Vivaldi browser.

Brave ads work significantly differently from most: [brave.com...] - the aim is not to compromise privacy.

I quit Google (search) in 2016. I've been using DDG.

Tried Brave (meh) a few times but I'm still using Firefox (full time) -- I haven't ever once used Google Chrome
