As an affiliate, you would be competing with many millions of others with the same goals you have. For many years it was possible to do well as an affiliate. Today it is different and if you do not have a group of rabid followers you are not likely to make enough to pay for your hosting. SEO is the same for everyone, it can't do anything for tracking issues and interference between click and checkout. If someone could tell you "how to do it" why would they?

If somebody ACTUALLY knows how to make money on the web with advertising or affiliates do you think they will TELL you---and create a competitor?
HOWEVER, folks will cheerfully share what DOES NOT WORK and point out general misconceptions/errors, thus saving some time and heartache.
Affiliates these days may require monetary input on the webmaster side, which cuts into any income which MIGHT accrue. SEO done as "don't make stupid mistakes" is a pretty fair thing. SEO done as how to game the system generally falls flat.
