Will adding an overlay to my website affect organic rankings?

I see some popular sites using overlays to gain opt-ins these days.

I would love to add this to a few of my lead generation websites, but I am concerned that it may compromise my organic rankings. Does anyone know the affects of adding overlays to your website?

I don't know about organic rankings, but people who test massively seem to love them, so I'm guessing they see good ROI.

It shouldn't affect your organic rankings, though they can be seen as pop-ups, which are not allowed for Google Adwords.
