Is unified login important?

Hello, I run a site that is currently built of 3 components,

OSCommerce, vBulletin, and WordPress.

I'm using WordPress to run my site's articles, and front page news updates. Users are encouraged to join discussions on vBulletin. The site also runs a e-commerce store using oscommerce.

Right now, all three systems require a different logins.

It keeps it simple, and also secure, but it also leads to some confusion and usability issues.

I have looked into this a little, and doing the vBulletin integration is the hardest due to the commercial nature of the software and such.

I just wanted to hear opinions for or against unified login.

I would say that in every single case I've seen as a consumer, VB always has a separate login (my host, just started using Daz 3D and it's true there, and a few other places).

I think it's a pain in the neck for me as user and an obstacle to participating in the forums unless I have a pressing support question, but it seems to be normal practice.

As for WP and OSC, isn't there a bridge available?

I thought so back in the day and that's why I went with community server for the one community type site I have. I did find bridge apps to auth with things like forums, galleries, blogs, etc, but being open source I was 100% assured that they would never upgrade in unison and every version upgrade or security update I did could shell the single authentication.

Amen to that! I'll never do a Drupal + Gallery site again.

So scratch what I said about OSC + WP bridge.

I thoght that you can know use scripts that use someones social media profil as there login.

so a wp or oscom profile creation page can have a nice big buton of facebook, asking if that visitor would like to login using there facebook profile details.
