No matter what I do I simply cannot get results from Yahoo. The CPA (customer acquistiion cost) is always about 40% higher than on Google.

I dug in a little deeper and found out that:

from the traffic that comes from Yahoo/Overture only about 50% US, the rest of the traffic comes from nearly all non 1st world countries. About 16% of the traffic comes from Turkey which is really random.

Does this mean that Yahoo is sending me crap traffic that simply does not convert. I would expect that from Kanoodle and other smaller engines but not from Yahoo.

I do not have content match checked in my campaign so I know the bad traffic is not comign from bad affiliates of Yahoo.

Please let me know if you have had similiar experience with Yahoo.

thnx a bunch

Welcome to Yahoo Search Marketing traffic. You are experiencing what the rest of us started figuring out in the last few months. Non Yahoo.com traffic is 98% crap. Even with Content on. I've complained many times and get nothing in the way of resolving the issue. They simply aren't interested in allowing us to filter by domain.

The result is a drop in search revenue and a 20% ding in stock price today. Congrats Yahoo! You reap what you sow.

Thanks for the heads up. I've noticed that Yahoo is a lot worse than Google for conversions and EPC and your theory that it is their weak partners makes sense. Are we being displayed on non-search engines?

Turn off Content Match if you don't want that.

Can we not designate U.S. only?

It looks like you could get only Yahoo Search and not their search partners if you set your Match Type for Standard Match, not Advanced Match type. Their partners include MySpace among others, so I think I will keep Advanced Match type.

Here it is from the Yahoo Search Marketing site:

What are the different Match Types?

To help advertisers capture the maximum amount of targeted leads, we offer two match types: Standard and Advanced.

Standard match type

The Standard match type displays your listings for exact matches to your keywords, as well as for:

* singular/plural variations of your keywords
* common misspellings of your keywords
* topics that are highly relevant to your keywords
* topics that are highly relevant to your titles and descriptions

Advanced match type

The Advanced match type drives additional targeted leads to your business from our high-quality partner network of sites. It helps you grow your business while saving you time and effort by displaying your listings for a broader range of searches relevant to your keywords, titles and descriptions and/or web content. And because you have the ability to track and refine your results specifically for this match type, you'll have the information necessary to keep your ROI on track.
